Happy Saturday everyone!

If you have been following Nails Talk, you would have known that a group of us polish lovers here in sunny Singapore have been running and participating in the #SGSwatchFest for a while where we post manicures based on a theme on a certain date. There were many other polish lovers out of Singapore who have been interested in our themes but because of the "SG" prefix, many of them had hesitated in participating.

After much thought and gathering positive feedback done by Susan from The Subtle Shimmer, the revised version is now #PolishTogther. Susan got the inspiration from the children's song "The More We Get Together" as she wanted a name that was about inclusiveness and friendship.

Susan has also created an Instagram account @PolishTogether where updates on the themes will be posted. Do follow the account for access to more information and upcoming themes.

Over the months, the other ladies have taken turns to host the different themes and I'm really excited today because I'm hosting today's theme! I chose to host this theme because I have always been a sea lover and also because blue is one of my favorite color when it comes to nail polish.
Today, 8th June, is World Oceans Day, the official UN-designated international day of ocean celebration. The oceans are essential when it comes to food security, people around the world depend on a healthy, clean ocean to survive and thrive. Not only that, the oceans power the climate and are a critical part of the biosphere.
World Oceans Day was designated to give us an opportunity to raise awareness globally of the challenges faced by the international community in connection with the oceans. The two-year theme for 2013 and 204 is "together we have the power to protect the ocean!"

To tie in with this day, the theme for #PolishTogether is to wear a manicure featuring the color blue.

After much deliberation, I chose to do a gradient manicure to depict the ocean. This is also the first time that I'm using this color combination for a gradient manicure and I wonder what took me so long to try out this combination.
Colors used to create the gradient are as follows:
  • China Glaze | Blue Hawaiian
  • China Glaze | Atlantis
  • China Glaze | Water You Waiting For
  • Nubar | Night Sparkle
Out of the four polishes, Atlantis had the worst formula. It turned goopy real fast and was really hard to manage. Luckily I wasn't using to for a full manicure otherwise I would have pulled my hair out. Yes, that's how bad it was.
Swarovski crystals were added to the sides to signify the treasures that are the oceans life. I then sealed it off with two coats of Seche Vite top coat to give it that extra smooth and shiny finish.

The nail art on the accent finger is my feeble and lousy attempt at fishtail braid. I only realized it was lopsided when I was done painting but I was too tired to re-do it.
Colors used to create the fishtail braid nail art are as follows:
  • Essence | Grumpy
  • Essie | Smooth Sailing
  • Orly | Snowcone
As we go about enjoying the weekend, let us take a moment to honor and celebrate the oceans, the body of water which links everyone of us, for what it provides us and what it represents. More information about World Oceans Day and how we can do our part to protect the oceans can be found here.

Do remember to add the hashtag #PolishTogether when posting your manicures in Instagram. Don't forget to also check out what the other polish lovers have created.

Till the next, have an awesome weekend!
