THE YEAR THAT WAS 2012

眼前飛過的蝴蝶也許是
誰在想念著我 那句我愛你雖然難開口
我想現在就說
生命太多遺憾每一分每一秒我都會緊握
說到愛 當你需要我陪著你
Let`s sing it out of love
~蔡健雅, <<說到愛>>, 2011~

Was reading through the past blog posts when I came across the posts which I wrote back in December 2011 and 2010. Reading through the entries brought back lots of memories, both the good and bad. It also made me realized how much I had changed in the past one year.

The entry on "Goodbye 2011" made me decide to write this post on the best memories of 2012. There were many wonderful and fond memories in 2012 and it would be a shame not to put them here. Hopefully when I read this post in 2014, I will have become an even better and happier person.

A New Change
In January 2012 just before Chinese New Year, I went from having a short layered bob to side swept pixie crop.

I was a little hesitant at first cause the last time I had such a short hair do was when I was 17 years old.
But I needed the change and I decided to take the plunge and placed my trust in my stylist.
I gotta say it was one of my best decision though I might had gave a few people a heart attack.
It was the best hairstyle I had in years and it was a refreshing change.
I look more energetic and most importantly, it look Me.
After having the pixie crop for a good half a year, I'm now back to having a bob.
Will I go back to sporting a pixie crop again? Definitely!
But for now, it's time to let the locks grow out a little.

A Change of Portfolio
In October 2012, I celebrated my 3rd anniversary with the organization.
2012 was also the year where I was given the opportunity to move on to International Marketing,
where Vietnam and Malaysia were the two main markets under my care.
The later half of the year was spent mostly in Vietnam and Malaysia,
where I spent an average of 2 weeks away from home every month.
It was tiring, but it gave me the chance to travel to Vietnam and East Malaysia.
It also gave me the chance to learn about the different cultures,
to make new friends and most importantly to appreciate everything I have back here.

From Events Management to Marketing Communications to International Marketing,
I'm really thankful and grateful to have been given so many opportunities to learn in these 3 years.

Started Writing Chapter 31 of My Life
For the first time ever, I started writing the new chapter of my life in a foreign country.
No fancy celebration, just me and my laptop.
But the lovely people at work and CG made sure I had the chance to cut not one but two birthday cakes.

Satisfied the Wanderlust in Me
2012 was the year where I traveled extensively both for work and leisure.
Airports and hotel rooms became my companions.
FaceTime became one of my most used application.
There were times where I woke up not knowing where I was.
There were times when I was really home-sick and called Mummy non-stop.
Despite these, I'm still thankful for having the chance to travel and take in all the wonderful sights that the world has to offer me.

January: Malaysia
Accompanied Mummy love to Malaysia during Chinese New Year
where we had fun lighting fire crackers.

March: Japan - Hokkaido

Never thought that I will ever travel to Japan but I did in 2012 with Mummy love and her friends!
Love the amazing scenery and most importantly, the weather!
Mummy love finally fulfilled her wish of seeing snow and nothing delights me than seeing her smile.

June, July, August, September: Vietnam - Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang
The later part of the year was spent mostly in these 3 cities in Vietnam for work.
What I love about Vietnam are the friendly folks, the rich culture and the simple life.
Unlike Singapore, where everyone is so caught up in the rat race and chasing after material stuff,
in Vietnam, everyone is contended with what they have.
Among the 3 cities, I have to say I enjoyed Da Nang the most.
Sleeping and waking up to the lullaby of the sea waves and breeze was the best of the trip.
I also finally crossed off travelling alone on my secret to-do list.

September, October: Malaysia - Genting, Kota Kinabalu, Sibu, Kuching, Penang and Malacca
Went on our first trip together with the Baby Sister and Bro-in-Law.
Destination: Genting Highlands.
The last time I headed there was back in 2010 with Buddy Wee and the place is still pretty much the same.
Visited places like Strawberry and Lavender Farm for the first time.

The first half of October was spent travelling around East Malaysia for work.

With the exception of the flying days, this was the first time I travelled to East Malaysia.
I was a little afraid at first because Malaysia isn't exactly well known for their safety.
But I had nothing to fear because East Malaysia was totally different from Peninsula Malaysia.
The Chinese community over there is pretty huge and people were really friendly.
Whatever time that I had left after all the meetings were spent exploring and taking in the lovely sights.

Travelled to Malacca in the later part of October to attend Elis and Jeffrey's wedding.

It's not my first time travelling to Malacca and it never fails to amaze me with her glorious history and beauty.
Thanks to KG who brought us around and constantly feeding us.
We ate so much during the first 2 days that all of us had to take ENO to aid our digestion!
Nonetheless, it was an awesome trip with the lovely colleagues!

November: Western Australia - Perth
After 10 years, I finally made my way to this amazing country.
Many of my friends always can't understand why I love this "boring" country so much.
Honestly, I don't find Perth boring at all.
I love the slower pace of life as compared to being in a pressure cooker Singapore.
I love how I can drive at peace, the delicious food, the gorgeous scenery and most importantly,
being able to spend time with my loved ones.

New Beginnings
2012 was the year of many new beginnings.
Celebrated the arrival of the Bestie's baby boy, the ever adorable Xanthus Lam
and the cousin's baby boy Yue Jee.
Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

Celebrated the holy matrimonies of my good friends.
It was also the year where we celebrated the holy matrimony of the Twin and Victor,
Shi Shiong and his lovely wife, William and Sally, Elise and Jeffrey (my second wedding overseas),
Chang Quan and Apple and last but not least Sihui and Timothy.

Reignited my passion for photography
Started Project 365/Photo A Day Challenge at the start of the 2012.
Despite not completing the challenge for the month of May, I'm glad to have started it.
It opened my eyes and took note of my surroundings and be appreciative of the wonderful sights around me.
I'm still thinking if I should carry on with this project for 2013.
I want to shoot photos because I want to not because of I had to.
It is becoming a commitment which is starting to feel silly, tiring and is taking the fun out of shooting for me.
Till I make my decision whether to continue with the project or not,
here are my favorites for 2012.

Attended the Singapore F1 Grand Prix
If not for the fact that Jay Chou was one of the performers for 2012's F1 Grand Prix,
I probably would not have attended it.
Still, it was a great experience (minus the massive crowd and shoving that came with it).
Screamed myself hoarse during the performance of Jay Chou and Maroon 5.
By the last day, my energy was all drained out and so we just sat at the back
and enjoyed the fantastic performance of Katy Perry.

The Twins' Photo Shoot
This photo shoot was supposed to be done way back in 2011 when we said hello to the Big 3.
But due to our hectic work schedule, we had to postponed it to 2012.
Really glad that we did this photo shoot although the Twin wasn't really happy with the outcome. Haha!
Cheers to another wonderful memory into the memory bank!

Friendship is born at the moment when one person says to another:
"What? You too? I thought I was the only one."

Focus of My Life
Family and friends was my focus and priority in 2012.
Whatever time I had when I was not traveling was spent with them.
If not for them, I would not have been able to get through the rough start of 2012.
They are the ones always who believed in me,
who stood by me no matter the circumstances,
and who truly love me without asking for anything in return.

Love of my Life
My awesome family, Mummy love, Baby Sis and Bro-in-law and Baby Bro.
Always there for me, always loving me.
They are more than what I could ever ask for.Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

The Young Ones
Relationship with my paternal cousins grew stronger in 2012.
It's amazing how much nonsense we have despite the huge age gap.
Being with them always makes me feel like a kid again.

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

My Bud Buds.

The ones who never fail to fill my life with laughter.
With them, I can always be myself, without having to put on a mask.
Thank you guys for all the wonderful memories that you have given me these few years.
Looking forward to creating more wonderful memories with our nonsense!Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

My dearest ESR Team.
Even though we are no longer working together in the same division,

our friendship is still going strong.
If someone is to ask me what was the best thing that happened to me in this organization,
my answer would be, the ESR team.

Smoke Gets In Our Eyes
Even though I only get to see this group of people once a year (three times in 2012 though),
we never run out of things to talk about.
Even though they always tease me endlessly whenever they see me,
it never get to me.
Because I know that their way of caring of me.
Looking forward to seeing them again in July/August again!

Friends for Life
This group of people will  always have a special place in my heart.
From 2 years to 10 years and more,
they are the ones who have been my side when I was at the lowest point of my life.
Always there to share not only my joy but also my unhappiness.
When I stop believing in myself, they continued to believe.
Whenever I lost the strength to fight my battles,
they were the ones who kept on encouraging me.
When I needed a shoulder to lean on,
they were the ones who never hesitated in offering their shoulders.
They accepted and love me for who I was,
never once passing any judgement.
When I needed time to be alone to sort out my mind,
they gave me the space I needed.
When I was ready to stand back up on my feet again,
they will always be there to help me.
Thank you all for the wonderful friendships and everything else.

New friendships were also forged through the love of nail polish and Instagram.
Met fellow polish-holics like Yuxin, Cheryl, Rachel, Susan, Annette, Wendy and Mei Mei.

Thankful to have also been given the opportunities by Susan and Mei Mei to review some of the lovely nail polishes.
A big thank you to you wonderful ladies for your wonderful friendship!

2012 had been an amazing year.
I got much more than what I could ask for.
Thankful and grateful  for the opportunities that came along,
for the love and blessings that I was showered with.
A big thank you to everyone who made 2012 a wonderful year in one way or another.
I'm sure 2013 will be equally amazing if not better.

Just found your blog in that roundabout way which one stumbles across things on the internet and just had to say that your pictures are beautiful! Happy to be here.
