Genting Highlands with the Buddy

Day 1My first trip to Genting Highlands was back when I was primary school. It took me 16 years to step foot once again in Genting Highlands.

The Buddy and myself had been planning to go for a short trip to take a break from our hectic schedule and do some catching up. The initial plan was to fly to BKK but all thanks to the Buddy who only got back to me on his schedule so late that by the time we wanted to book the air tickets, it cost like S$800 per pax!!!

Crazy right!?!?!?! Since I don't see the sense in paying so much just to fly to BKK, we decided to go somewhere nearer. Seeing as it was 16 long donkey years ago that I visied Genting Highlands, that became our destination.

We finally reached Genting Highlands after enduring a 7 hours coach ride!!! Because we took the early morning coach, the Buddy and myself fell asleep after clearing the customs.

Since it was so long ago since my last trip there, I didn't really remember how the plce look like. So I was quite surprise when I saw the indoor theme park and how clean the place look.

The only thing I didn't count on was the weather. I didn't think that it would be that cold so I only brought along a cardigan, a pair of flip flops, dresses, tank tops and a pair of ballet pumps and then it turns out that the temperature actually hit as low as 13 degrees!

I did contemplate buying a shawl but I already had so many shawls at home and since we were only staying for 1 night, it didn't made sense for me to waste money buying something which I already had. In the end, I just made do with my cardigan and tried my best to stay indoors.

Our first meal of the day was Marrybrown. I had nasi lemak while the Buddy had fried chicken.

This is how our room look like. I was quite surprised to see a ceiling fan instead of an aircon. And it was those old-school ceiling fan. :P

The view from our room. Now I know why there isn't a need for an aircon in the room. You just have to open the windows and it will be cool enough.

I was hoping so much to take a ride on the gondola BUT...it was closed for maintenance! :(

We were hoping that it would be ready the next day but in the end, it didn't happened.

A Chinese New Year fair going on since Chinese New Year was nearing. We didn't buy anything though. We were quite surprised with the quality of the decorations and that of the booths as well. Quality was pretty good and I dare say it's much better than some of those found in Singapore. And the lanterns were a change from what we usually see in the atrium fairs held during Chinese New Year over in Singapore.

While walking around, I had a pleasant surprise. Baskin Robbins!!!

The last time I tasted Baskin Robbins was back during my Aussie trip and I was missing it so much. I didn't know that they had in Malaysia too! How could I give it a miss right?

So what's better than having an ice-cream in the cool, cool weather. SHIOK!!!

The only disappointment was the theme park. It was just as I had remember it which means there wasn't much changes at all. Or maybe it's because since I have been to Disneyland, Universal Studios, Dreamworld and Movieworld, I had a higher expectation of theme parks now.

The Buddy and myself decided not to waste money to enter the theme parks but we did managed to get some photos on the link bridge.

Was trying out the aperture function on my camera so that was how the above 2 photos came along.

A yu-sheng that's different from the ones that we usually see.

Decided to chill out at Starbucks while waiting to catch the movie "The Spy Next Door". Spent my time reading and fiddling with my camera.

While waiting for the movie to start.

Did you know that they actually have 2 different types of seating in the seating. They have the regular and premium seats. Apparently the premium seats are slightly bigger and cosier and comes with a tub of caramel popcorn, a small drink and a snack and it cost only like 18 ringgit per person which works out to like S$9.00 per person.

It's definitely cheaper but in actual fact, there isn't too much a difference in the seats.

The irritating thing was that there were these 3 ladies beside me who kept talking non-stop throughout the movie. At one point, I actually made the "Ssshhhhh" sound in an irritated tone. They stopped but for like only 5 seconds and then they started again. Really can't understand why some people can be so inconsiderate.

Spent the rest of the evening window shopping and exploring the place before having dinner. No photos taken of our dinner because it was awful!!! Wasn't worth our money and defnitely not worthy enough for me to waste my time to take photos.

Photobucket

I was very curious about how the casino looked like so we decided to head down to the casino after dinner.

The first casino that I went to was Burswood in Perth so I was a little apprehensive about the casino in Genting Highlands. I was afraid that it would like that one those dodgy kind of place; I remember being in one when I was in LA so I was quite surprised that it wasn't what I expected.

Stayed for only 10 minutes and then we went to this place where they had a live band playing.

The Buddy and myself had only one word for the band...AWESOME!!! The lead singer had a really powerful voice and he could sing in English, Mandarin (not that good though), Thai and Hokkien. That was definitely a wonderful ending to our day.

Day 2
Photobucket

Woke up at 10.00 am after sleeping for nearly 10 hours!!! That was how tired we were and the weather was so cool that we didn't want to get out of our beds.

We had no choice but to drag ourselves out of our beds because our stomach were growling and also because we had to check out soon.

Saw this Pink car bursting out from one of the shop front. Lovely!!! Look familiar? I'm sure everyone would because everyone would have seen because they were following Hard Rock Cafe.

Spent the rest of the morning afternoon wandering around while waiting for the time to borad the coach to head back to Singapore. We were pretty bored by then because there's only so much that you can see and do at Genting Highlands.

Photobucket

Finally, time to board the coach and head back to Singapore.

And that marks the end of our trip to Genting Highlands.

So will I go back there anytime soon? I doubt so.

The only thing I like was the cool weather, other than that, there's nothing much that I fancy. I don't gamble so the casino doesn't attract me at all. Anyway, if I really do want to go to the casino, we now have not 1 but 2 in Singapore.

Even though you have to pay the casino levy of $100, I still think it's worth it rather than have to sit through a coach journey of 7 hours or more.

And next trip on the list, BKK on April Fools Day! Can't wait!
